TREE PLANTATION DRIVE AT THE BELVEDERE GOLF AND COUNTRY CLUB (19/7/20)

"THE BEST GIFT WE CAN GIVE TO OUR FUTURE GENERATION ARE TREES"

The plants and trees play a very vital role in sustaining life and ecosystem on earth and, therefore, the importance of tree plantation must be understood. They inhale carbon dioxide and exhale the life-giving oxygen. Plants and trees also provide food, fuel, wood, flowers and many other important items. They are also natural source of food and habitat for birds and wildlife and play a significant role in ecosystem. Trees also absorb other harmful gases from the atmosphere, thus, making the air pure and fresh.

Lions Brilliance Shantigram club also wanted to mend some help to nature. Thus, the club decided to organise a tree plantation drive at The Belvedere Golf and Country Club on 19/7/20. The event was sponsored by two charter members - Prabhjot Singh Bakshi and Roopesh Jain. We planted two varieties of trees - Peltophorum and Alstonia Scholaris (Satpanni). The drive started with Pratik sir (manages the nature control department of Belvedere club) giving an informative short speech on the role of the two particular trees. He stated that Satpanni's leaves were used in medicines and Peltophorum fixated atmospheric nitrogen. This ensured that other than just planting trees, the kids of my age also got to know something informative and peculiar. We planted a total of 60 trees!! A total of 20 people participated. Kids of my brother's age (who is just 9 years old) also planted trees. This surely created awareness among the younger generations.

Overall the drive was really successful and I would like to thank The Belevedere Golf and Country Club for giving us the required venue and also helping us in the initiative. I would also like to thank Prathmesh Divecha sir for giving us the venue, without a hesitation he said yes.

"Survive, Survive and Survive" - This has been and continues to be the sole motto of all of us as the Covid-19 pandemic continues to take a toll on our lives.  People are surviving by the mere mercy of oximeter bound to their fingertips. Life that seemed to be big-sized is now thriving on a small machine. The pandemic has once again risen to its utmost potential and has now become even more dangerous with no beds available in the hospitals, non-availability of doctors over phone calls, shortage of basic oral medicines and no signs of remdesivir injection in the pharmacies and with a waiting time of over 36 hours for a government ambulance (104, 108).Even if you get your own private ambulance with hefty amounts of money, you have to wait for over a period of no less than 8 hours in the queue outside hospital; you can consider yourself very lucky if you succeed in getting an ambulance with oxygen. Its a fight against death from home with only your family members beside you. You...
